Antone Street Residence
Antone Street Residence
Atlanta, Georgia
Our clients desired a small 3 bedroom/2 bath—2,000 sf house that fit into their Berkeley Park, in-town neighborhood. Our answer was a custom, contemporary Craftsman-style bungalow that utilized space efficiently and took advantage of its airy, corner lot position.
We created a “Not-so-Big” small house that “values quality over quantity” by doubling up on functionality and use of space and providing supportive architectural details. An open formal Dining “room” is incorporated into the Kitchen space, seamlessly. The Study which opens up onto an enclosed Sunroom doubles as a third guest bedroom. The master suite sensibly occupies the entire second level with controlled views from its advantageous perch.
The home features a generous entry porch which pairs as an outdoor lounge—custom-fitted with an inviting daybed swing. The porch connects the home to passing neighbors, while also providing personal solace and relaxation. Sustainable design principles and viable design elements include a detached garage, hydro-grid pervious concrete driveway, utilizing spaces for more than one function, and specific harvesting and manipulation of natural light.
The contextual and thoughtful response of this enduring architecture successfully provides an alternative to the typical, over-scaled McMansion infill by emphasizing comfort and beauty for in-town Atlanta living.
