Powers Ferry Sunroom
Powers Ferry Sunroom
Atlanta, Georgia
Our clients requested a private, rustic-modern, Indoor-Outdoor sunroom on their beautifully landscaped property in Atlanta’s Chastain Park neighborhood.
Our goal was to create a secluded sanctuary space that they could use each day, while also becoming an extension of day-to-day living spaces on other occasions. After removing an outdated screened porch, we carefully designed and integrated the structure to connect with the backyard landscape and with the kitchen and dining areas, by providing pass-through casement windows, counter extension, and glass bifold doors. We organized the space around an authentically designed stone fireplace to provide areas for lounging, reading, dining, and relaxing— on the comfy daybed-swing.
The sunroom features a simple three-sided light monitor to capture abundant natural daylight throughout the year which also delivers light to existing living spaces. We custom designed push-out casements, large bi-fold and sliding glass doors to operate with a perimeter, automatic hidden-screen system that’s pocketed into the timber beams above. The flexible window and door configurations provide different degrees of openness to nature and fresh air, while the operable screens provide for the occasional need of pest control or pet corralling.
The vaulted ceiling in this space further accentuates a sense of connection with the outdoors. Utilizing natural durable materials like copper, stone, and rustic timber beams along with large glass openings of industrial steel creates a sense of modern timelessness.
